Dreamland Bar-B-Que Description:
With the neon beer signs and paraphernalia, Birmingham's Dreamland has the look and vibe of a sports bar. But just one whiff and you'll immediately know that barbecue is the thing here. The family legend holds that John "Big Daddy" Bishop got the idea for the ribs restaurant in a dream---thus the name Dreamland. Ribs come in four-bone sandwiches, half-slab and full-slab portions. Chopped pork and chicken are offered and can fill a sandwich or top a salad. French fries and macaroni 'n' cheese have joined potato salad, baked beans and coleslaw as sides. The beans have just a touch of brown sugar and honey, and the light sweetness is a nice counterpoint to the peppery-vinegary flavor of the ribs and sauce. Creamy homemade banana pudding makes a nice finish.
