Digs Bistro Description:
Just off a side street from Berkeley's bustling restaurant district, Digs Bistro offers a softly lit reprieve---a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with creative and satisfying cuisine. The charcuterie plate is presented as a small feast of house-cured savories, and is a fine way to start the meal. Portions in general are generous, and fuse the flavors of the season to create contemporary high-end comfort foods---while, of course, using local and organic ingredients whenever possible. Flavorful Meyer lemon fettuccine is met well with the sharp kick of pecorino and garlic, and enriched by pancetta and fava beans. Grilled leg of lamb is served with an artichoke, potato, tomato and feta gratin, accompanied by broccoli rabe and a tangy, bell pepper rouille. Grilled day boat scallops are complemented by Yukon mashed potatoes and leek and carrot ragoƻt, balanced by thick bacon, and a light prosecco-butter sauce. The menu changes monthly. Items may include fried squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese, pork loin or a porcini mushroom and ricotta ravioli with fava beans, bread crumbs and onion au jus. Desserts might include a Grand Marnier chocolate truffle tart or house-made plum and white peach sorbets with pistachio lime cookies. The wine list is small but formidable and priced for accessibility.
