Ryleigh's Brew Pub & Raw Bar Description:
Fine dining no longer necessarily involves white tablecloths and waiters in formal attire. Some of the city's best meals can now be found in casual bistros, such as Ryleigh's Oyster Food & Spirits, a handsome Federal Hill restaurant and bar. (Longtime Baltimoreans will remember this spot, which now sports a glass front and balcony, as the pioneering brewpub Sisson's.) Executive chef Patrick Morrow shows his fine-dining experience even in burgers, hot wings, and other standard bar fare, but seafood is where he truly shines. We recommend the plump panko-encrusted fried oysters with chipotle butter and pan-seared scallops napped in citrus beurre blanc, and we'll definitely be back for more Maryland cream of crab soup, the best version of this soup you may find on either side of the Chesapeake. If we have one complaint, it's that the brick dining room is overly air-conditioned in summer. But toting a sweater is a small price to pay for food this terrific.
