Now you can dine with the Roman emperors at Della Notte: owner Ted Julio purchased the marble busts from the defunct Haussner's. They do look impressive in the main dining area, a round room edged in comfy banquettes. The food here gets better all the time, from the simplest pasta with Roma tomato sauce to the more complex frutti di mare (a wealth of luxurious shellfish in tomato sauce, served over linguine) to handsomely turned-out veal dishes, like the picatta with capers and lemon white wine sauce. The crusts on the individual pizzas are crisp and satisfying. An in-house bakery turns out heaps of temptation, from cheesecake torta to tiramisu. And the reserve wine list is one of the best around. In its friendly, upscale-casual way, Della Notte is playing a starring role on the edge of Little Italy.
