Gumbo's Description:
Lofty ceilings, mosaic tile floors and polished service remind us of a charming French Quarter restaurant in the Big Easy. So does the menu rich with Creole-Cajun classics draped in saucy emulsions. On those rare chilly days in Austin, we crave a steaming bowl of soulful chicken and andouille sausage gumbo paired with the substantial almond-crusted goat cheese salad tossed with bacon dressing and cinnamon brandy apples. Salmon Sardou, served with fried shrimp and tasso hollandaise, is one of the more protein-rich, albeit decadent, entrées we've seen. If you dare skip seafood, gravitate toward the stuffed chicken Dixie over roasted red pepper sauce or the grilled pork tenderloin brightened with raspberry chipotle sauce. Chocolate bread pudding crowned with a moon-size scoop of vanilla ice cream is a necessary ending.
