Paul's Restaurant Description:
In late 2005, Paul Albrecht, formerly of the now-closed Pano's & Paul's, launched his own venture, and from its tiny galley kitchen comes a diverse line-up of fine treats. One might come just for sushi. We like the humorous touch of a "surf-and-turf" take on sushi nigiri, with a lightly seared strip of filet girdling the roll. Bedecked with a brandy foam, the aromatic and medium-bodied lobster bisque makes a good starter, or in the larger bowl portion a fine light main dish at lunch. Or choose a robust appetizer of sweetbreads with prosciutto and sage, and a side of warm wilted arugula. Ask, and this starter may be turned into a lovely main dish with a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus. Selected Southern touches appear, as in the grits and fried okra accompanying the crab-crusted flounder and Ellijay, Georgia, apples alongside the calf's liver. The old P & P batter-fried coldwater lobster tail here comes dressed with jícama slaw, honey mustard and drawn butter. The wine list includes a good selection of wines by the glass, and on Sundays and Mondays, all wines are available at half price, with some limitations as to selection. Thanks to the ability to hear table conversation, Paul's works for both romance and business purposes. The upstairs patio is a popular hang-out, and has its own bar menu.
