White House Restaurant Description:
The White House has been in business continuously since 1948. Coming from Greece, Demosthenes Galaktiadis began working there in 1968 and bought it in 1970. He relocated the restaurant to its present site in 1974, just a few blocks from its original location. Being Greek, Galaktiadis throws in a few good Greek specialties. Join the locals for sumptuous grits-centered Southern breakfasts, maybe with a pork chop or two on the side. The specials are served from a steam table, but there’s a good list of well-priced steaks and made-to-order sandwiches as well. Come for the Greek specialties according to the day they are served: Moussaka is dished up on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, for instance, and pastitsio on Tuesday and Saturday. Southern fare has its featured days as well: Monday, Friday and Saturday are barbecue days, and Wednesday is for fried chicken. The salmon croquettes go on Friday. And so it goes. This is a rare spot in fancy Buckhead for down home cooking. Cobblers and puddings are made on site, and sometimes a cake or two. But pies are bought.
