Thumbs Up Description:
This is a buffed-up, bright and bustling version of Thumbs Up's original breakfast joint. The 1920s building with its brick walls, big windows and red-leatherette bar stools is a bit more generously sized than the original location. Under the direction of Brian Cate, the menu focuses on the first-meal dishes, although one may order from a list of sides to compose a lunch, and there is a house-made barbecue sandwich. We like the Yukon, a generously proportioned omelet with smoked salmon, spinach and feta cheese. Heck, it's even good cold. The grits are the real McCoy: stone ground and properly seasoned. Their corn flavor is right on the money. Bacon isn't just bacon: it's apple wood-smoked bacon. And if you're minding the health issues, the ubiquitous (on a Southern breakfast platter) biscuit is available in whole-wheat. Other locations.
