Savage Pizza Description:
With mostly locals for patrons and kids for waitstaff, Savage Pizza has been in operation---albeit in two different locations---for at least a decade. The focus is on pizza, and Savage does it very well. The crisp, yeasty crust on these pies and calzones is a standout, and whole-wheat crust is an option. Everybody has a favorite, but beyond simple tomato, basil and cheese, the Cordon Bleu---with roasted chicken and prosciutto---is well done and unique. So is the Cajun, with andouille sausage and Gruyère. Chicken Florentine, with spinach, cheese and chicken, may be one of the better pies. Classicists, however, will argue that there are too many ingredients on a single pie. And, of course, you may style your own, thus over embellishing one even further. Bring a gang and get a pitcher of beer to savor this place the right way. Sub sandwiches also are available. Solo slices are an option, but not after 5 p.m. Also located at Avondale Estates, 115 Laredo Dr., 404-299-5799.
