The Johnson Studio, Atlanta's premier restaurant design team, created an interior with an appeal that never seems to wane and one that seems to shield the restaurant from the noise outside in the mall. At Prime you can ignore the steak and satisfy a sushi craving with an array of competently prepared sushi combinations. Familiar Tom Catherall dishes---he's the restaurant's Scottish-born owner---also adorn the menu. Fans will recognize the hot chili seafood and the roast chicken with mashed potatoes and haricots verts. Chef John McGarry, who came to Prime from Catherall's Goldfish, changed much of the menu upon his arrival, but still the familiar rules, including the juicy 14-ounce veal chop. Prime steaks are hand-cut on the premises. Wagyu beef has been added to the offerings, and we don't think we've seen a tastier steak in years than the Wagyu hanger steak here. Double-cut lamb chops are among the steak alternatives, along with myriad seafood dishes, among them halibut in season. Catherall likes Southern grits, and uses them in many interesting ways, almost always with spicy addenda, such as jalapeño cheese. For sides, the creamed spinach remains among the best anywhere. The wine list, with some choices by the glass, covers a good bit of ground, but focuses more on California. Finally, some rosés have been added. Budget-watchers may dine on one of three pre-selected steaks at very reduced prices from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. (must be seated by 6:15 p.m. and place your order by 6:30 p.m.).
