Market Description:
Transformed, this re-branding of a nondescript, forgettable Buckhead hotel into the W Atlanta – Buckhead puts the building on the map architecturally and from a hospitality perspective. The presence of Market is announced at street level, almost more pointedly than the hotel itself. A sternly contemporary interior, classic W hotel style, rules the spaces today. Another project by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Market aims to assemble flavors from diverse cuisines, French, Asian and Italian most especially. To some degree, a diner may segment the menu into its assorted parts, focusing, say on pizza---the one with black truffles and Fontina is splendid---or the very tasty spinach and ricotta ravioli with pine nuts and basil butter. But most dishes borrow from the diverse cuisines to enhance each other. The succulent pork chop, for instance, brushed with a smoked chili glaze comes with shiitake mushrooms. The glazed short ribs are paired with honshimeji mushrooms and a carrot purée. For dessert, we like the sorbets, which show lively, intense purity of fruit flavors. The wine list is well chosen and offers some interesting choices by the glass.
