Kirkwood Public House Description:
Kirkwood Station, which positions residences on top of retail spaces, is home to Kirkwood Public House, formerly known as Vinocity, and formerly a wine bar. The Vinocity neon sign still rules from its position to the left of the bar, advocating "Love/Food/Music" in its bold presence. While there is a bit of upholstered seating, most is table and bar, and upstairs on a mezzanine is a semi-private dining area. The kitchen is shockingly tiny, but manages to turn out reasonably decent food. Check out the day's soup supply, the house flavor is a boldly flavored carrot soup. We enjoyed the sliders: a burger with slaw; ground veal; and lamb with caramelized onions and mint. Patrons include young singles as well as parents who reside in the neighborhood, so a kids' menu is offered. A couple of desserts are offered, with bread pudding or crème brûlée most likely to make an appearance. The former is a portion plenty for two. Weekend brunch is a sure hit. Exotic brews are the quaff of choice, and there are a number of them from which to choose.
