Medici Description:
Remade in the manner of a modern Milanese restaurant, the dining room for the Renaissance Waverly Hotel has morphed into a fine dining Italian restaurant. Chef Maximillian Velaruz is working hard to get its culinary accent right. Medici is ideal for a quiet dinner before or after a performance at the nearby Cobb Energy Center. Dine lightly with a salad or fine soup or substantially on either a steak seasoned with a "Tuscan rub" mixture or good seafood. Pasta is decent, except for risotto, which is tastes pre-cooked, so it turns out mushy. A Tuscan onion soup is a nicely flavored light opener, while either the fritto misto or grilled vegetables appetizer produces enough for four to share or to make a light main dish with a soup or salad. Desserts have seen major improvement; the panna cotta topped with fresh fruit is a tasty, light meal ender. The wine list is a sorry business, especially by the glass, but ask nicely and the manager may open something better for you. The Ferrari-Carano Fumé Blanc is ideal with the fritto misto, and the Argyle (Oregon) Pinot Noir does wonders with the sea bass.
