Brexi Brasserie Description:
Brexi, one in a trio of restaurants run by Aspenites Craig and Samantha Cordts-Pearce, who also own The Wild Fig and LuLu Wilson, fits squarely into the fabric of Aspen's glitz and glamour. The lovely dining room, bedecked with Art Deco-style black and white floors, clustered crystal chandeliers, a marble fireplace and tufted red banquettes, looks every bit the part of Pastis or Balthazar, but how does the food stack up? It's hit or miss, frankly: the charcuterie platter, plated with cured and dried meats, was generous in quantity, but woefully underwhelming in quality and taste; the frites were overcooked, the steak undercooked. On the upside, the French onion soup unleashed a triumphantly rich, hearty broth swelled with soft onions, while the burger, topped with smoked bacon, caramelized shallots, Emmental and Russian dressing, likely rivals any in Aspen. Each evening features a plat du jour, the best of which is the herb-roasted lamb T-bone offered on Thursday. The wine list is oh-la-hum, rather that oh-la-la, but the beer list, boasting selections from Belgium, France, Great Britain, Germany and the United States, is first-rate.
