How nice to have a really, down-home kind of place in the neighborhood. Well, not too down-home because it's the baby of David Matelmacher and Tom Harkins, who created the sophisticated Center City boîte, Circa. Plate has the same high-tech glamour, with lots of frosted glass and open spaces. There's a wood-burning fireplace where they turn out pizzas at lunchtime, and cedar plank salmon and roasted chicken at night. There's also tender brisket, turkey meatloaf, mac and cheese with barbecued shrimp, ribs, and dynamite onion rings. In other words, a completely non-threatening menu, with something for everyone, that changes with the seasons. When the service gets straightened out, there should be no reason for complaint.
