Southside Bistro Description:
Look for this charming bistro within the strip malls of the Huffman area. Enter into a long narrow room with ochre walls bedecked with giant French posters dominating the décor. Divided into two parts, the casual bistro side on the left of the entrance boasts a flickering fireplace and a casual menu of quick, tasty dishes, while a formal dining area to the right offers an exciting view of the kitchen including peek-a-boo flames of the brick wood-fired oven. The Bistro menu offers burgers, pizzas and appetizers. We almost always start with the cream of sun-dried tomato and roasted garlic soup. The dining room menu showcases a variety of dishes including New Zealand venison and Scandinavian duck. A favorite, the chèvre salad, features warm pine nuts and goat cheese, cucumbers, red peppers and olives dressed in a lively herb vinaigrette. Entrées might include local pistachio-encrusted halibut and rice with a saffron cream and mushroom-caper relish. Desserts are delightful here, with each plate a mini artwork enhanced by subtle, colorful sauces. The bar has a short but notable list of beers, while the extensive wine list will tempt wine lovers with well-known domestic and European selections in every price range.
