Yanni's Mediterrian Bar and Grill Description:
What started out as a humble gyros joint for cash-strapped UNM students has matured into a spacious, airy blue-and-white restaurant with a full menu of Greek classics: saganaki, moussaka, souvlaki, and simple grilled lamb and fish dishes now round out the dolmades and spanakopita. Even as the kitchen keeps it admirably simple---going heavy on traditional seasonings and sides, from lemon, oregano and dill to orzo, spinach and feta salads---owners Nick and Chris Kapnison keep the operation in Olympian shape, maintaining a top-shelf bar and opening the otherwise enclosed patio on warm summer evenings to let the breezes flow in. The people-watching is tip-top too, as the dining room boasts front-row seating for the human parade up and down the Nob Hill stretch of Central Avenue. Yanni's is also home to Opa!, the watering hole for many of the city's off-duty media personalities.
