Double Musky Inn Description:
The log cabin exterior of Double Musky Inn, located just 45 minutes south of Anchorage, hides a Cajun-packed punch of purple and gold beads and sizzling, spicy dishes. Reservations are famously (or infamously) not accepted here, so show up right at opening for the best chance of grabbing a table. Starters may include halibut ceviche, a fresh Alaskan treat marinated in lemon and lime then cradled in an avocado, while entrées range from French pepper steak to a Prime filet with béarnaise sauce. The slam dunk dessert choice is Musky Pie, a rich, creamy chocolate pie with a pecan and cracker crust. You can buy a single slice or a whole pie. To complement a meal, there's a full bar and a varied wine list. Best to skip the house wine, which has proved disappointing on occasion, and upgrade. Note that this establishment is closed each year from late October through early December.
